Brief Action Planning Workshop
Brief Action Planning is a highly structured, patient-centered and evidence informed model based on the principles and practice of Motivational Interviewing (MI). It is a structured way of having a conversation with someone who is interested in turning their hopes for healthy behaviours into concrete plans. The core skills can be used by anyone interested in supporting others to make change.
One hour practice and feedback calls are offered to all participants 1-3 weeks after the workshop to provide participants an opportunity to practice demonstrating the model. Participants are required to complete at least 2 practice and feedback calls in order to receive a certificate.
By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:
- Describe the Spirit of MI in health behavior change
- Utilize three core questions during patient visits
- Demonstrate and receive feedback on 5 core skills for facilitating patient centered action planning
Brief Action Planning was developed by the Centre for Collaboration, Motivation and Innovation (CCMI).
This workshop is offered as a full day in person workshop or online as two - 3 hour sessions held one week apart. Practice and feedback calls are 20 minutes - 1 hour in length, depending on the number of participants registered (1-4 participants per call).
